The single most interesting web site about the development of Babylonian mathematics is in which much of the history can be seen in an extraordinary record of clay tablets (Tontafel), spanning several thousand years. But I don't see any mention of this anywhere in Wikipedia. I interpret this as meaning that most Wikipedia contributors on this somewhat messy subject haven't done their homework. As I say, when it comes to history most of us are content to write about the way things ought to have been.
