Here's where Wikipedia appears if I put various
mathematicians into Google.
We'll see later why I made these particular choices):
-
Euclid #1
-
Archimedes #1
-
Carl Friedrich Gauss #2
-
Eudoxus #1
-
Jacobi #3
-
Dirichlet #2
-
Kummer #3
-
Gotthold Eisenstein #6 (German page from English Google)
Ferdinand Eisenstein #1
-
Kronecker #4
-
Riemann #1
-
Dedekind #1
-
Kurt Hensel #3
-
David Hilbert #1
-
Minkowski #1
This is a phenomenon we all should learn
how to deal with. At the very least,
Wikipedia will affect how our students learn
and therefore also how we teach;
and it will likely also affect how mathematics
and mathematicians are perceived by
- dare I say it? - funding agencies.
