1. Why were you interested in this contest?
- I like doing math of all kinds and I have never been in a math contest before.
- Because math is my favorite subject.
- To see how good I am at math.
- I want to know how good I am compared to everybody.
- Because I am good in math.
- Because I want to learn something.

- It was interesting because we couldn't use the calculators.
2. What did you think of the set up of this contest?
- I think it was good because even if we did not register, we can come into the contest.
- It was fun to do because some questions were challenging.
- It was hard but fun.

- The rows are too close together.
- I think it was O.K. but I hope that next year it will improve.

3. What parts of the contest did you like the most? Why?
- I liked every part of the math contest because you can think a lot. (Grade 4 student)
- The math. I get to solve problems.
- I like the refreshment break because we don't have to do work.
- Discussing problems, because I can learn better ways to do math.
- The desks in front of you are lower, you can still see the front if you're short.
- I liked watching the countdown the best because it was fast and exciting.
- The part where they taught us more about math because I learned something.
- The sprint round. It was the easiest.
- The target round, because it was fun.
- I liked the target round best because it was easy.

4. What parts of the contest did you like the least? Why?
- I didn't like any the least. (Grade 4 student)
- I didn't like waiting.
- I didn't like the wait because I was getting bored.
- The only part of the contest I didn't like was waiting 20 minutes.
- It is hard to hear because there is no microphone.
- No calculators. It's hard.
- I like the part where questions were explained the least because I could not hear very well and it was too boring.

5. What have you learned from taking pat in this contest?
- To be patient.
- There are many techniques to solving a question.
- Lots of ways to do math from this contest.

- How many people are interested in it.
- That you ahve to read a question carefully.
- I'm not trying for the Gauss contest.
- That; * means times and / means divide.
- Some mathematical words.
- Winning doesn't always count.
- More ways to figure out the answer.
- There are a lot of people better than you.
- How to solve problems I didn't know how.
- Nothing.
- I learned some new math. (Grade 4 student)
6. How can this math contest be improved?
- You could have smaller groups.
- You could have more time to register and get into the seats.
- More time for refreshments.
- You could put grades in different rooms.
- No way.
- Less typos.
- More easier questions.
- Make the chairs and desks more comfortable.
- By getting less people in each room.
- Let us use calculators!
- It is already good and I don't think it needs any improving.
- Just use, × and ÷.

Why were you interested in this contest?
- It's free.
- I want to make my teacher and parents proud.
- Better than a weekend watching T.V.
- I want to do some challenging questions.
- You can meet other people that are very good opponents.
- I wanted to try something challenging and exciting and to make a name for myself.

2. What did you think of the set up of this contest?
- I think it is fantastic.
- I think it encourages people to learn.
- It is good but it is confusing to find this building.
- Very organized contest itself. Registration could be faster and more organized.
- It was a bit confused, nobody seemed really prepared.
- Quite good although it's sometimes mixed up but it's a first.
- The organization? There was no organization, it was quite chaotic.
- The schedule is quite good, but I'd have liked the refreshment break to have happened when it said it would.
- It was fast moving and challenging.
- I think it is very challenging, but not too hard.
- Could have better planning and timing.
- It's great! Easy to follow and challenging to do.

3. What parts of the contest did you like the most? Why?
- The buzzer.
- All of it, because it's more fun than doing nothing at home.
- I liked the questions, they were good contest questions. The orange juice was good too.
- The parts that I passed because I passed them.
- I like the problem solving because I learned a lot of things that I can take to school.
- I learned A LOT!
- I liked that the questions were challenging and made us think.

4. What parts of the contest did you like the last? Why?
- Registration, I stood for 30 minutes and waited for 30 minutes.
- My fax wasn't received, that wasn't fun!
- When we had the break because I like the cookies.
- The parts I didn't pass, because I didn't pass them.
- There wasn't enough table space.
5. What have you learned from taking pat in this contest?
- To pace myself and use time efficiently.
- Math isn't easy.
- I learned different ways to problem solve.
- That math is more challenging than I thought.
- I learned that math actually can be fun.
- I learned that math is not that hard if you try.
- I learned that trying my best is what I have to do to complete the test.
- Many people's math is better than me.
- Speed doesn't cound, correct answers do.
- Math is a great subject.
- I learned that Problem Solving has many strategies for solving and it is my duty to find that out.
- I learned not to spend too much time on just one question.
- How unorganized UBC can be. (Grade 6 student)
6. How can this math contest be improved?
- Find a bigger place.
- Make it move along faster.
- If the schedule won't cahnge that often.
- The location can be more obvious.
- Be prepared to take in more students.
- Be more organized, I don't blame you though.
- I thought it was quite good.
- You could have more organization in registration, i.e. 1 line for each grade, different tables for A-L and M-Z (one for each) and bigger signs.
- Let people look up at the ceiling during a test.
- In any of the sections, especially the Countdown, don't ask the SAMPLE QUESTION.
- Ask us to solve equations, not just problem solving.
- Make it easier, because school has never taught these quesitons.
- Start at the right time
- More questions.
- More time.
- Allow calculators no matter what.
- Less people so I can win.
- Improve registration.
- Nicer Hostess.
