  • The comments from TA: I marked 4 problems, namely 2,3,7 and 10, in the H3 each for 5 marks. There is one homework which has no name on it so i could not enter the marks in the excel sheet.

• The format of the final exam will be similar to the midterm exams and the 2007 exam. It will have around 10 problems with one of them being Yes/No. We skip section 5.5 since we do not have enough time to cover it.


• H3 will be available on Monday in front of my office.

• The average of MT2, the second midterm exam, is 27.6 out of 40, or 69.0%. The following is the distribution. MT1 numbers are included for comparison. The solution to mt2 is posted.

• UBC Calendar description:   MATH 221 (3) Matrix Algebra: Systems of linear equations, operations on matrices, determinants, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalization of symmetric matrices. [3-0-0] Prerequisite: Either (a) a score of 64% or higher in one of MATH 100, MATH 102, MATH 104, MATH 110, MATH 120, MATH 180, MATH 184 or (b) one of MATH 101, MATH 103, MATH 105, MATH 121, SCIE 001 or (c) advanced credit for MATH 100.
