Suggestions (ancient times)

  • Research sources carefully. Use secondary sources for interpretations, not facts. Separate the two as much as possible.
  • Leave out irrelevant stuff.
  • Adopt as your own the state motto of Missouri. In the immortal words of U. S. Congressman Willard Duncan Vandiver: " ... frothy eloquence neither convinces nor satisfies me. I am from Missouri. You have got to SHOW ME!"
  • Spend more effort explaining the mathematics.
  • Put things in context, even if briefly.
  • Isolate the myths in a separate section. The main way to deal with them should be to track down their origin, not to tell them as if they were true.

Part of this can be put in one sentence:
Was wirklich wissen wir, und wie?
