Title | Effects of migration on tick-borne disease risk |
Abstract | Human monocytic ehrlichiosis (Ehrlichia chaffeensis), HME, is a tick-transmitted, rickettsial disease that has recently increased substantially in the USA in recent years. The ticks that spread this disease have white-tailed deer as a major host species. The increase in deer populations in recent years has led to changes in their dispersal patterns. The impact of this change on the areas of risk for humans is explored using a mathematical model. |
